#EmergingProud launches Monday 17th October 2016; I am so excited to be initiating this international campaign supporting people to come out of the spiritual closet!
The aim in encouraging people to openly tell their stories about spiritual experiences is to end stigma through normalising the phenomena, change policy around how these experiences are treated, and ultimately to save lives. SIGN UP HERE to make sure you don’t miss out on exciting news and interviews which will take place until the official “Emerging Proud; Coming out of the Spiritual Closet” Internationally recognised day on 17th March 2017
This campaign is intended to be fun, but the intended impact is not at all light- hearted.
Eleanor Roosevelt, the inspiration behind our Human Rights Act, referred to the Declaration as the “international Magna Carta for all mankind.” It was adopted by the United Nations on December 10, 1948.
68 years on and they are not being upheld…
Human Rights Act: ARTICLE 18 — FREEDOM OF THOUGHT
“Everyone has the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion; this right includes freedom to change his religion or belief, and freedom, either alone or in community with others and in public or private, to manifest his religion or belief in teaching, practice, worship and observance.”
And neither is the DSM addition from 1994 being acknowledged…
The inclusion in the DSM-IV (1994) of a diagnostic category called “Religious or Spiritual Problem” was heralded as a significant breakthrough. It was intended as an acknowledgment of distressing spiritual experiences as nonpathological problems.
Because they continue to be pathologised and are little spoken about within the psychiatric world.
This campaign aims to raise awareness and change this. The work of the INTERNATIONAL SPIRITUAL EMERGENCE NETWORK also aims to create this same transformation.
I am very excited to announce that during the campaign you will get to see ‘behind the scenes’ at ISEN! I’ll be interviewing some colleagues, who dedicate their time to support people going through the spiritual emergence process, from around the world – so often we are asked; “So what does ISEN do exactly?” Well, you will find out if you JOIN THE CAMPAIGN!
One of my regular featured special guests will be my fellow ISEN Director, Rozalia Kovacs- Napier. Rozalia will spill the beans on her own spiritual emergence story and #Emerge Proud with you all!
